Jokowi Appoints Yudhoyono’s Son as Minister of Agrarian Affairs

The former President Yudhoyono's son, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono, officially serves as a Minister of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning.

Indonesian President Joko Widodo has appointed Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono, the former President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono’s son, as the Minister of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning in an announcement made on Wednesday, February 21, 2024.

This move follows the reassignment of Hadi Tjahjanto, a retired Air Force Marshal, who now assumes the position of Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs.

President Jokowi acknowledged that his decision to appoint AHY as Minister of ATR/BPN was influenced by the impressive educational record of the Indonesia’s 6th President, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono’s son.

“I know that Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono is the Chairman of the Democratic Party. He is also an alumnus of the Military Academy, having pursued studies at Nanyang University, Harvard University, and Webster University,” stated President Jokowi following the inauguration at the State Palace.

Agus, who leads the Democratic Party, previously supported presidential candidate Prabowo Subianto in Indonesia Maju Coalition, forming an alliance with President Widodo’s son, Gibran Rakabuming Raka.

This ministerial appointment marks Agus’s inaugural foray into public office beyond his responsibilities within the Democratic Party.
